Seminole, FL, Bickley Rv park

September 27, 2016, passport America $35/night FHU. We are going to stay here, it is close to Norm' s Dad, Henry. We will stay here til Norm moves the rv to Fort Desoto on October 1. We are going to do some errands before I fly to CT on 9/30
We are still trying to exchange our phones since the recall. We filled up the rv, $2.49/gal, 46 gallons, odometer reading 48965. That is 8.2 MPG. With the generator running as we drove for the air conditioning.

Perry, Georgia, Twin Oaks Rv park

September 25-26, We found this Rv park on passport America $20/night FHU. This is a nice place. We were brought to our site and told to set up and then go register. There was a nice dog play area and grassy area for Yogi to walk. Yogi has been sick for 2 days, so a nice grassy area for him was appreciated. There is a large inground pool and hot tub. I went shopping came home and made dinner. We went to the hit tub. On Monday morning we went to Lane Orchards, we had a great salad bar. I bought some pecans and wine. I will bring some to CT, later in the week. Afterwards we went home and swam in the pool and hot tub. I wasn't able to stay awake long enough to watch the presidential debate.

Adairsville, Georgia, Leisure Time RV Park

September 24, 2016, Leisure Time RV park, Passport America,  $17.75 full hook ups,  We are heading south towards Florida. The trip from Huntsville to Adairsville was only 2.5 hours   It was through the mountains, lots of steep grades and windy roads.  This is just a stop off.  Nothing special here.   We are parked next to the office, no picnic table, no site, no space. We are just using the hook ups for Air conditioning.  We were going to stay at a harvest host location, but with high 90s, today  we wanted electricity.

Huntsville, Alabama, Yellow Hammer Brewery

Location: Huntsville, Alabama, United States

September 23, 2016,   Yellow Hammer Brewery a Harvest host location, free.   Today we dove 4.5 hours to Huntsville,  Alabama.  During our drive today it was hot!, 98 degrees.   The sun was pounding through he big windshield and the dash ac does not work.   This has never been an issue before today.  We started the generator and both house ac units.   It took forever to get the rv cool.   We filled with diesel fuel, $2.34/ gal, $115 , 49 gallons, odometer reading is 47887, we are getting 7.84 mpg with the generator running.    During today's trip , that pesky  air leveling system in the back of the rv malfunctioned again.    It sounded as if we were driving on a rumble strip.  He observed that the metal tube had popped out of the rubber bushing we had just replaced in Buffalo.  He put a hose clamp on it and we were on the road again.   We arrived in Huntsville, we drove past a space and rocket center.   It had rockets and a space shuttle in the outdoors.   We went to Yellow hammer brewery and parked.   We went inside, the people were very nice.  We had some pizza and beer flights. It was so hot out that we went in the rv and just hung out, waiting for the sun to go down.  After the sun went down we went to the other brewery right next door.  It is called Straight to Ale brewery.  All of their beers have something to do with the rocket and space center.   We had a beer called Monkey naut.  It is named after the first american in space. She was a monkey, she is buried at the space center.   We went outside and listened to the music from the festival going on outside.  We brought Yogi out onto the lawn, he was quite popular.  This brought many people over to us, they wanted to pet yogi.    While talking to these people we discover some interesting information out.   I was talking to a couple,  Mason, is an astrophysicist, he works at the rocket center studying lightning and is a rap singer.  His date, Sara, is a professor of math at the local university .   Norm was talking with another couple,   they tell Norm that they own the brewery (straight to Ale), they want to join Harvest hosts with their brewery and took down the information.   The woman is retiring from NASA after working there for 30 years.   Apparently having rocket scientists all over the place is not unusual in this neighborhood.  They told us we could stay another night. After talking with them, we walked down the street a bit so I could get a hard cider at another brewery call Salty Nut Brewery.  We went home and slept well.   We could not stay another day.  Our livers would not like it.

Romance, West Virginia, Rippling Waters Campground

September 19-20, 2016 West Virginia, Rippling Waters Church of God Campground, Passport America $20/night.  We are just driving through West Virginia because it was south of Ohio.   On the trip I cooked and cut all the vegetables we had bought at the farm we just left.  It was quite enjoyable.  Yogi just laid down in his driving spot.
We drove 3.5 miles down a windy narrow country road from the highway  and arrived here.   Check in was pleasant.  We were given a spot near the lake.   It is relaxing here.   I wanted to stay an extra day to get postcards and blogging done.  By the way, our blogging app is not functioning currently.  I have blogged and had them erased, it won't take pictures and a host of other issues.  Norm is working on a fix for it. So right now I have to do things in many more confusing steps.  It is 82  degrees, with a forecast for high 80's all week.  I have been cooking since we arrived.  Full hook ups are a luxury when cooking.  Yogi was able to swim in the lake.

Madison, Ohio, Rainbow Farms

September 19, 2016.  Rainbow farms a harvest host location, free.  We arrived at the farm in the afternoon.  After a call to the owners we were instructed  where to drive the Rv. We went through a closed gate way back into a field with crops all around us.  After setting up the Rv, we went for a ride to see Lake Erie.  We went to a little town park.  We put our feet in the lake.  Once again amazed at the size of the  lake.  I just looked up a fact,  the lakes are 21 % of the earth's fresh water.  We returned to the farm had some dinner. Then the owners came to see us to visit with Yogi.  They  too had a big dog that passed away in May.  They loved Yogi.    The owners left and returned with a fresh picked watermelon for us.  We went to bed early.  We packed up to leave and stopped by their farm market.  Everything  was so inexpensive.   I bought many tomatoes, melons, onion,  garlic and spaghetti squash.  We chatted with the owners about expenses that farmers  have such as liability and workers comp Insurance.  We hit the road.  On the trip I decided to cook all the tomatoes into sauce for dinner tonight.    It smells so delicious in here now!

Niagara Falls, Canada

September 17, 2016

Norm and I both awoke early.   We decided to get an early start to get to the falls.  We arrived by 8 AM.   With passports in hand, we went through the turnstiles and across the Rainbow Bridge.  After walking over, we went through Canadian customs.   Then down the stairs and to a restaurant with a view of the falls for breakfast.  The restaurant was called " The Secret Garden" .  I, of course, ordered Canadian bacon.   Then, we crossed the street and walked down a meticulously clean street, with gorgeous flower gardens and lawns.   The Canadian side is so much fancier.  We went to the place where you can go behind the falls in a tunnel.   It was $18 each, and worth it! After entering an elevator, you are given raincoats, at the bottom you get out and head out to an observation deck at the bottom of the falls, It is off to the side, so you can see the edge , where the water drops over.  There is lots of over spray and you are wet in no time.   Afterwards, we walked down a tunnel behind the falls.  There are two tunnels that then turn left and head out to openings where the falls are rushing over.  There is nothing to see but a sheet of white.  It is the roar and power that is most notable.  Afterwards, we headed up the elevators and back out to the street.   We walked further down this walkway, towards a hydroelectric plant and besides the Niagara River with its Class 6 rapids.  Unfortunately, at this time Norm checked his email and discovered the part we needed for the RV was not delivered as we had ordered and paid for.   If we don't get it today, we will have to stay for 2 more days.   We turned around and hustled back to the bridge. We needed to pay 50 cents to cross.  Then to American customs.  There was a storm coming and it started to pour rain as we reached our car.   We had ten minutes to make it to UPS.  We made it to UPS , the delivery guy was just getting ready to lock the door.   He handed us the package.   We went home, picked up Yogi and went out for a ride.  the goal was to see Lake Ontario.   We drove for about an hour,, we went to a little park and put our feet in the Lake.  Impressed by how big the lake is.  Then we headed off to a little town and had lunch.

Niagara Falls, N.Y., American side

September 16, 2016.  We made it to the falls!  We arrived in the evening.    It was cloudy  and  warm.   We drove around the block and found parking. Tonight it is free.   We scoped out where to walk to the Canada side. We didn't bring our passports tonight.  Then we walked through the park and up onto an observation  deck.  Our first thought was this is it!  We didn't realize that we couldn't see the horseshoe falls from where we were.  We walked down by the edge of the falls.  It was loud and  powerful sounding.  We took pictures, walked around  a bit. Then we headed back to the campground,  to get an early  start in the morning. We are coming  back to go to  the  Canada side.

Will we ever make it to Niagara Falls?

September 16, 2016,  We left our overnight spot to head west towards Buffalo.  It was a 2 hour trip. Unfortunately on the way the rv had a mechanical mishap. Norm thiught we had a flat tire. There was no flat tire, but the rear automatic leveling  system had a piece break. This is the same thing  Norm had has fixed in Texas with a hose clamp. This time it broke off.  We drove the rv very slowly to a rest stop 2 miles ahead.  At the rest area Norm superglued it back together.    This seemed to work as a temporary  solution.     Upon our arrival  at the campground,  we researched and ordered the part from Spartan chassis.    The part was $1.50, shipping  was $50.  We wanted overnight delivery.

Buffalo, N.Y., Anchor bar vs. Duff's

Location: Buffalo, New York, United States
9/16/2016.; We finally made it to Buffalo, N.Y.. for some original buffalo wings.First we went to Anchor Bar, the proclaimed originator  chicken wings. We went inside took our seats in the dining room. It is a quaint, old bar. Lots of history, pictures of famous and common people cover the walls.& We ordered 20 medium wings with a beer each. They were just what one would expect for buffalo

wings. Next, we went to Duff's, self proclaimed competitors with Anchor bar. We went in took our seats and ordered 10 medium wings and fries. Unfortunately our mission to compare the two was not planned

well. I was full.  I tried one wing.  It was similar to the other place, just mildly tangier.Norm did his best to eat them , but he too was full. There was not a significant difference between the two.

Geneva, N.Y., white springs winery

September 15, 2016.  Harvest host , free.  Today we drove 4 hrs to the finger lakes for some wine.  There are over 400 wineries in the area.  I picked the white springs winery because it also sells beer. The beer is Glass Factory beer.  During our drive we filled with diesel at $2.59/gallon. $150,  57.71 gallons. The Rv has 47129 miles on it.  During our trip we attempted 3 times to get our propane filled with  no success.   The gas stations that claimed they had it, were we're just exchange  tanks.   We attempted to get to a campground near Ithaca. That brought us into the city on roads that were ridiculous to  maneuver in the Rv.

Wright's Farm, Gardiner, NY

Wright's farm, Gardiner, NY. Harvest host location free.   We were met by a friendly young woman. She escorted us up a Hill and into their Apple orchard.  We are all alone.  Gorgeous views. Purchased some fresh Apple cider donuts, cheese, eggs, jam and pie.  The owner showed us a place to walk this evening to observe the local skydivers.   He said bring a beer and relax. So we will comply!

I love Ikea.

We  decided to refurnish our living area.   After feeling cramped, disorganized  and gloomy,  we decided to make some  changes.   We went to  Ikea for some ideas to replace our existing  leather couch.  We need a bed for when  we have  guests.    Our first  thought  was an air mattress.   During our visit to Ikea  we went to the couch /futon area.    We had a few choices.    We even  decided on one.    As we continued on our trek through  the  store I spied a kitchen  island.    I  thought we could  use it for  a  table,  counter.  We would  access  the  shelves below by cutting  openings in the divider below.     The possibilities  are  warming  up  now.    We continued out with  some ideas.   When we came upon  the daybed section.   I  saw a white daybed.    It has storage  below it.     .    We continued and left with our ideas.    We went home.   Came up  with  a  time plan,    we listed our old couch  on Craigslist and sold it in an hour.    We returned a week later and purchased our new furniture.     We came  home and started the  project.    We used gorilla wood glue as we assembled.   We started  with the island.    It wasn't too bad.    The daybed  was next.     We ordered our mattresses so we needed to  wait for them to come in.    But the difference  surely  lifted the mood in the Rv.    It's  bright  useful  and cleaner.   The next day was rearrange  storage of our stuff.    I moved into the drawers with linens.  Norm moved to  the  less accessible old linen area.     I  love it. This was definitely needed.

New rv decal

July 10, 2016  Today  we applied the new decal  to  the  back of the rv.   I had heard of  a place that makes decals  from  a  personal picture.   Ann,  another  camphost  had given  me  the idea.    I tried to use a picture Fort Desoto,  site  128  (our wedding  location), with  a  silhouette  of our recently deceased dog.    I was told by the online  place  that the picture  wasn't high enough quality.   So I had given  up.   One day  I stopped  at Camaro signs in Norwich,  CT.    Valerie,  a graphic  designer  there,  quickly  assisted me.  She obtained the picture from  Dropbox,  then edited and added a black  border.  The picture  was $128.    Ready  in two days.    I  removed the  old stickers,  and used buffers and rubbing compound  to remove  the Shiney ghosting left behind.    Our neighbors Martin and  Kathy,  assisted  to install  it.    Big thanks  to  Martin!   Anyway  it is done and we love it.

Natik, Massachusetts

Today  we bought a replacement  Subaru Crosstrek  because  I  blew up  the motor,  transmission and exhaust on the  previous one.    Note to  anyone!  When  you  are asked 3 times  if you  are  sure,  take the extra  time  and make sure!   I left the car in gear  and ruined it when  we towed it.   This ruined  our trip and  all the fun  we were having.     It added huge amounts  of  stress and cost us money.    Luckily,  our new insurance  company  covered the car.   The car was totalled with  $17000 in damages.    Now we have  a  model  year newer car.    I  can tell  you,  I  will  never  ever  leave  the  car in gear  again.    Costly  lesson learned.

MY BIG MISTAKE!

May 5th 2016, nice morning,  we are packing up to head to  North Carolina.  We are going to visit Alan Huff.   He is a new friend  we had met while  camphosting  at Fort Desoto Campground.    As far as a pack up  and  go,  it was one of the  smoothest  ever.   Norm pulled the Rv to  the main parking  lot.    I  followed  and pulled up behind  the  Rv in the Subaru .   Norm  pulled out the tow bars and hooked up  the  subaru.  I was inside  the  car, doing  final  checks.  Norm came over to  me and  said to put the key in accessory  mode,  shifter in neutral emergency  brake  off and lock the door.    I got out locked the door,  looked in through  the  window to confirm  the emergency  brake was down.    Then we got in the Rv and started driving.  THEN,  a short way  down the road,  Norm saw smoke billowing out from the car hood.   He pulled over,  there wasn't  much room.   I  half opened the step cover and  we ran back to the car.   (For future reference,  I  didn't  even  bring  the fire extinguisher).   The smoke was coming  from  the  engine  area.  Norm opened the  hood  and there was oil gushing  on the ground,  the dipstick had metal shavings in it.     This was BAD!   I  must have left the car in  gear.    Norm was screaming (not at me).     Norm checked to be sure it was in  neutral and  we drove to  a safer location.    I texted  Huff that we weren't  going to be coming.   We  were in shock and just drove,  in silence,  for a couple  of  hours.  We headed  east across Georgia.    I  started to  look  for  flights to Tampa,  there were none.    We  then looked  for rental cars.    We found  one in Augusta,  Georgia.    Hertz had a car.    Norm parked in  a lot down the  road.  We can no longer  back  up  the  Rv with the tow vehicle  on.  We can't take it off because  it doesn't  run.    I  called  our insurance  agent and explained what  happened.  She said the worst news,  that engines  aren't  covered.    We  are pretty  disgusted at this point.   I  walk down the  road,  rent the car,  return  to  norm  and the Rv.   I packed a bag.  I left for Florida.   Norm had to find  a  place to  go.   Augusta is hosting the Masters and there are no open rv sites for hours around.    Norm took the Rv and headed to  Columbia, SC.    During  the  ride the dog got sick  with the big D!  Norm  is just having  a  really  bad day.    He had to pull  over on the  side of the highway.    After cleaning  up,  he ended driving  at a Walmart in Columbia.     Meanwhile,  I  drove for 8 hrs and arrived at  Henrys house  at 11:30pm.    After a bad night of sleep.  I returned the  rental car,  picked up  my car,  had a coffee  with Henry and hit the road.    Norm  found a site at Barnyard RV Park campground  for the next two nights.  He filed an insurance  claim,  regardless  of  being  told it wasn't  covered.     An adjuster would  come see the  car in the next couple  of  days.      I returned to the Rv (home)   at 7pm.   Now we have a car and can get around  wherever we park.    Unfortunately,  I  will  not be able to  ride in the  Rv and our road time will  not be fun.    The next day the adjuster came.  He asked what happened,  took  pictures and said he would  write  his report.  Next we should  receive  a call from the claims  guy.    The report came in the evening.    $7000 so far.  There may be more as we cannot  tell  if the  transmission  is  ruined  also.    The report is three pages long,  the last page has disclaimers that say this paper is not a guarantee  of  payment.    We are hopefully just waiting to hear from  the  claims  guy.  We left a message  and sent and email.  No response  as of my writing  this.    I  went to  the local subaru  service  department.    The staff were so friendly.    The man there said the job would  be  about  a  week and a half.   But,  if other things  are wrong,  the adjuster  will  need to  come look  and approve more.     I  returned  and discussed this with  Norm.   He is  pretty  disgusted with  not knowing what to do,  without  the  authorization.    On a positive  note.  I have a friend  who lives locally.   I visited  with  her husband,  Tom and twins Jack and Sara. Tonight we are going to  visit with Keera and the whole  family.    We  are  just sitting  here now.   There are no campgrounds open in CT until  May.     So here we sit on  a Friday  afternoon with no answer and no idea what  we should  do.

Buffimville Lake Park, US army Corp of engineers

We have successfully  bid on a contract  here  at Buffimville Lake Park.    We are  contracted  to  work  Sunday and Monday  8am to 8pm.  From may 20-sept11,  2016.  We collect  entrance  fees,  pick up  trash around  the  park,  and  check  the restrooms  hourly.     So far so good.  It's a pretty  park,  with nice Rangers,  volunteers and fellow  hosts.

Beth Chmiel, my good friend loses her battle with cancer

May 28,  2016  . Beth  has been a friend  for over twenty years.  She has been  diagnosed  with  pancreatic cancer  in April  2015.  I wanted to  be close to  home  this summer  because  she wasn't  doing  well.    Since we arrived  in  April, there wasn't  much time to  squeeze in  alot.    She had us over for dinner,  we had some coffee  visits,  some hospital  visits and one last bingo  game at her house.    The last time  she was in the  hospital she was told there was nothing  else they  could  do for her.    She came  home  on Sunday,  may 22.  We,  her friends  and her husband  stayed with  her round  the  clock.   Until  she passed away.   May 28, 2016.   We will miss her.

Buffimville Lake Park, Charlton Massachusetts

May 7, 2016 We were informed  we could  move to our summer  location  a week early.    We arrived at 8am.   Our new neighbors were there already.  Cathy  and  Martin, they are also  Fulltimer's.    We moved in to our sites without  event.    Our charge Ranger Jamie  met us and gave us keys.    Later on  the other new neighbors  moved in Rita and Ed, they are from  Waterford,  CT.

Mohegan sun casino, Uncasville, CT

We stayed at  the  turtle lot at the  casino for 8 days.   The first day Norm and I  decided to  forget about the diet and  relax until we move to Massachusetts.    We went to  the  buffet for lunch.   While  there I saw that Jason Aldean was playing  that evening.   Norm surprised me with tickets.  We took the shuttle to the show.  It was a rocking show.   The next day  we went to the breakfast buffet.   On Monday,  Norm flew to florida to see his dad.   I  remained in  ct.  It was  terrible weather all week.  Cold,  41 during the night mid 50 during the day.  It rained every  day.   There was no sun.    Solar power  was not an option.   Then security  informs me I have  to  move  the  Rv to a different  lot.  Luckily  dad was just a phone  call  away.    He and mom arrived and we moved the Rv to  aroogas  parking lot.    I picked norm  up at the airport  at 11pm. We met donna  and rodney  at aroogas for a drink  and hit the sack at 1am.

Kalija died

April  18, 2016  Kalija hadn't been feeling well.   Between his achey  body,  his intolerance to walking  and eating dirt,  we needed to take him in to the vet.   We brought him to Old Lyme Vet.    He had an appointment  for Thursday,  but,  when I called  Monday,  I told them he needed to be seen sooner.   Norm and I took him in at 1115.   The vet knew right  away things were bad.    On first glance,  he had a guess that Kalija had a sarcoma of his spleen.   X-rays and bloodwork confirmed this diagnosis.    It was shocking news,  we already  knew things weren't good.   We just didn't realize it was this bad.    Norm  and the vet discussed euthanasia.   Norm said not until  after he takes  Kalija out for burgers.   We took Kalija to burger King,  then to Gorton pond.   Kalija ate his bacon double cheeseburgers,  he drank  nice cold pond water.   We took him  for a ride with  the windows down and returned to the vets.  We sat outside under a tree in nice soft green grass.    The  vet agreed to come outside to let us and Kalija be as comfortable  as possible.    We laid down with Kalija and they gave him a sedative.   Kalija left  this world hearing Norm telling he he is such a good boy.   And that he was.   Not a mean bone in  him.    Loyal to the end.   We will  miss him!

My parents house at 1230pm.  The ride was uneventful,  except a toll  in New York.   We recall it being . 75 cents.   Today it was  $10 for the Rv towing a car.   $1.50 for my car and the microwave  came open and the glass tray fell  out and broke.    After arriving at my parents,  we hugged,  had coffee  and Norm took the tow bars and his car off the Rv.    He and my dad agreed to take the subaru to the Massachusetts dealer on Tuesday.    After our reunion  Norm and I headed to our  campground for the next two weeks.    There was slim pickings at this time of year.    We arrived and checked in.  Filled the propane at $45 .   Our site is mediocre,  not level,  not to private,  but no big deal.   We are tired.    Walked the dogs.    They love the lake,  Kalija even went in.    We ate dinner and hit the sack.   BTW  coin operated Showers!!!

The  Rv currently  has 45584 miles on it .  Diesel  is $2.15/gallon  and we are getting  7.5 miles per gallon. We planned this stop because of the cave tours in the campground.   Being  a  camper gets a $5  discount each for a total of $15  each.    This place  is  very  scenic.    We were escorted to our site.   We  are  in a section  with no other campers.    It's in a woodsy area.   The dogs can be loose again.   We  went for  the  2pm tour   all by ourselves,  private  tour.    It was an 75 minutes  long and went underground 160  ft.        Afterwards  we returned  to  the  Rv, walked the dogs  to the pond.    Nobody  swam,  they just drank some fresh pond water.
